If I Had as Many Souls as There be Stars

“If I Had As Many Souls As There Be Stars” was a show I wrote music for recently, based on Christopher Marlowe’s The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus. The show was directed by Shane Anthony and performed at Renaissance College, Hong Kong, in September 2012.

The score features vocals by Helen Carrington, James Fox, Daniel Smerdon.

Stylistically I wanted to hit some sort of weird balance between modern electronic beats (thinking The Weeknd, Flying Lotus, Tycho), and creepy latin sacred music. It’s not particularly subtle - given the show’s setting in an international college with young actors I didn’t shy away from the drama and epicness. The four tracks above are the more musical numbers within the score, but there was also a whole bunch of creepy ambient and textural underscore.
