Continuing my recent explorations of hands-on electronic music-making
Today I played around with sampling from vinyl, and found some nice stuff on an old Mobile Suit Gundam soundtrack record. It’s been used as loops and as fodder for Ableton’s Simpler in slicing mode. I liked it because it has not only interesting textural and timbral qualities (which is usually the point of vinyl sampling) but also some really beautiful lydian harmony.
As usual the Electribe EM-1 makes an appearance - this time for fills and percussive textures. The main drums are played in via midi keyboard and left unquantised. - I wanted to try for some Flying Lotus-esque rhythmic looseness.
Also the ThumbJam patch which is fast becoming my go-to for transcendental soaring textures also appears at the end.
